Gold Mining and Bitcoin Mining

Gold mining and Bitcoin mining are two very different activities that share some similarities and differences. Gold mining is an age-old process of extracting gold from mines to put it on the market. Bitcoin mining, on the other hand, is a more recent activity that involves using computers to solve complex algorithms to secure the network and validate transactions in exchange for a reward in bitcoins. Both activities have various impacts on their respective environments. Bitcoin is often referred to as “digital gold” or “gold 2.0.” In this course, we will explore what this really means.
